News On The PS3
I was looking around the internet, just as I always do when I'm bored, and came across some stuff about the PS3 that I thought you would like to know about if you haven't already. Well, it looks like you guys over here in the U.S. are going to get your hands on the PS3 on November 17th, and of course, they are suspecting that there are going to be millions in line who will pay anything for this console. The pricetag is actually cheaper than I thought it would be, which is weird. The 20GB version will retail for $499 and the 60GB version will retail for $599, just like the 360 did. I don't mean those actual prices, but Microsoft did offer two different price ranges just like the PS3 is going to do. This thing is going to be freakin' heavy, weighing in at about 11 pounds of PS3 goodness. Jeez, the huge-ass Xbox is only around 8. Now, the controller is going to be motion sensitive, just like the Nintendo Wii, and be wireless, which seems to be with every next-gen console. "The PlayStation 3 also comes with support for many of the older disc formats, including CR-ROM, CDR+W, DVD, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, and DVD+R. The system will also be backward compatible with PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games. " THAT IS WHAT I WANTED TO HEAR. See, Sony isn't dumb when it comes to games, it finds out what people wants and adds that to the system with nothing they don't need. I don't know about you, but I kinda just want to say screw the Wii and pick up this machine. It may be a little pricey, but Sony does deliver what the masses crave. So watch out for the riots on November 17th when this thing releases, and get ready to be blown away once more with a new console.
P.S. In less then a month, I'm buying a PS2....I finally broke down and when my check comes in, I'll really see how a PS2 is. Later.

As I've been reporting on TGS (Tokyo Game Show) for what seems like WEEKS even though it's only been a few days, I'd like to clarify a few things-
First of all, the price of the Xbox 360 was - and continues to be - $399.99.
Secondly, Sony just announced a price drop on the low-end (20GB) PS3, from $499.99 to $429.99. Unfortunately, they also just recently updated, and said that drop is ONLY for Japan. The prices remain $499.99 and $599.99 respectively for the U.S. and Europe (sorry to get your hopes up). ;)
Thirdly, while both versions of the PS3 will be backwards compatible, it's important to remember that only the 60GB one will have a flash card drive...this means that if you have data on memory cards and wish to use this for old games (as many gamers will want to do), you'll need the 60GB PS3 because you can transfer the data to the flash drive. Sony is already set to market a device that allows you to do this. However, with no memory card or flash drive slots on the 20GB PS3, while it IS still backwards compatible, you wouldn't be able to use any old data.
However, one of the recent announcements was that the 20GB PS3 would now have the HDMI output, which it didn't before. Oh, and I have yet to verify this, but it's possible that only the 60GB PS3 comes with the wireless Bluetooth controller; the low-end PS3 may come with wired controllers.
Lastly, how in GOD'S name did you survive without a PS2 to play over the past six years?!?!?!
